Sword & Scoundrel

SCROLL DOWN

Sword & Scoundrel

Sword & Scoundrel is a character-driven fantasy role-playing game. It asks the players to decide what is most important to their characters, and then demands to know what they are going to do about it. It's a game of moral, physical, and social conflict as the characters fight to further their ambitions, beliefs, passions, and dreams.

Character Driven Stories

The player characters aren't just part of the story, they are the story. PCs are treated as fully-powered protagonists from the beginning. Their drives both shape the direction the game will take and reward the characters for the pursuit. Character creation focuses on who — not just what — the character is, engaging the players in the kinds of conflicts they want to play.

Cinematic, Lethal Combat

Combat is fast and deadly, with a system emphasizing player choice. Smart play and clever tactics are rewarded over big numbers. Based in a love of Historical European Martial Arts, combat is a cinematic experience that mimics the ebb-and-flow of real-world swordsmanship. Our HP-less, location-based wound system records damage as blood shed and flesh maimed, where even the strongest opponent can go down from a single, well-placed blow.

A Collapsing Toolkit

We've designed this game from the ground up to be as easy as possible to pick up and play. Everything is built around a single, simple core mechanic down to which everything else can be reduced. New players can pick up the game in minutes, and Game Masters can choose to incorporate the advanced systems as they become relevant to the game.

Digital Content

Whether your group plays across a table or across the world, we want to support your game. All of our products will have a digital version available, and we've developed specific versions of our character sheets to take advantage of digital play, including a form-fillable Pdf and comprehensive Roll20 sheet. Both include full character-calculators to make character creation even easier. Finally, we have a small but active online community to answer any questions you might have.
